WENATCHEE — A downtown office building that has stood vacant for years will welcome visitors again this month, though the reception may be less than friendly.
The Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center is transforming the former Chelan County PUD headquarters into The Haunt, a guided Halloween attraction opening Oct. 22.
The 70,000-square-foot building is at 327 N. Wenatchee Ave., on the southeast corner of Fifth Street and Wenatchee Avenue.
“This is not your typical haunted house. We are taking a 70,000 square foot office building and transforming it into a nightmare,” organizer Mark Belton said. “Guests will encounter dark corridors, unsettling scenes, and unsuspected scares.”
The guided tours will wind through the old office building, where organizers are creating scenes and surprises intended to keep visitors on edge.
“It’s packed with that eerie feeling that something is waiting around every corner,” Belton said.
The Haunt will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 22-25 and Oct. 28-30. Guests may check in anytime during those hours, with the final tour each night beginning at 9 p.m. Groups of more than 10 may be split into smaller groups.
The museum does not recommend the attraction for children younger than 13. Its disclaimer warns of bright flashing lights, lasers, fog machines, scent devices, loud noises, startle effects, confined spaces, stairs and dark areas.
The museum advises people who are pregnant, have relevant medical conditions or may react adversely to those effects to stay out. Visitors under the influence are also instructed not to enter.
Tickets cost $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Advance tickets must be purchased by 4 p.m. on the date of attendance to receive the discounted price. The museum encourages preregistration because tickets typically sell out. No refunds will be issued.
Tickets are available at wenatcheevalleymuseum.org. For more information, call 509-888-6240 or email info@wvmcc.org.
The Haunt is supported in part by Visit Wenatchee.
